Peter Wilkin, the great grandson of the founder of Wilkin & Son, welcomed the Mayor and Mayoress of Chelmsford, members of the successful Essex County Cricket team and guests to the new Tiptree tea room and retail store in Bond Street Chelmsford this week.  “We are delighted that our first city centre retail outlet is in Chelmsford and it has already exceeded our expectations,” said Peter Wilkin.  “I’d like to thank everyone involved in creating this amazing building from a very basic shell, the designers, builders and our staff.”

Walter Scott, Chairman of Wilkin & Sons mentioned that his family thought they would have to travel to London to have tea in the new Tiptree Bond Street store but now realise they can enjoy their treats much closer to home.

It had been just over a year from the first talks about taking a store in Chelmsford to the opening and as Scott Goodfellow, Marketing Director commented; “having things on plans is one thing, turning plans into reality takes a huge team of people working together to produce this fantastic venue.” He thanked the staff and the people of Chelmsford for their support of this new venture.

Guests from Visit Essex, Marks Hall Estate, the designers and local people were able to enjoy a gin tasting, which proved very popular.  The evening concluded with the Mayor cutting the cake and saying that he was proud to have a company of the standing of Wilkin & Sons, whose products are enjoyed across the world, taking its place in this prestigious shopping area in the centre of Chelmsford; he wished them every success.

Tiptree in Bond Street is open 7 days a week where the team lead by Jenni offer quick coffees or a more relaxed  breakfast, light lunches and afternoon tea service.  Customers also have an opportunity to browse and to buy from the complete range of Tiptree preserves, gins and gifts.
